The National 24-Hour Challenge (N24HC) was the oldest and largest ultramarathon cycling event in the U.S., running annually in West Michigan from 1983 to 2021. For nearly four decades, it brought together cyclists from across the country to test their endurance and commitment. In 2018, we partnered with the N24HC team to build a modern, data-driven WordPress website that would preserve the event’s rich history—long after the final ride.

Building a digital home for decades of achievements

Cycling 300, 400—even 500+ miles in 24 hours requires discipline, grit, and stamina. So does organizing and preserving the records of those who’ve done it. The N24HC site was built to do just that: honor every ride, every record, every year.

Challenge

By 2018, N24HC needed a website that could do justice to the scale and history of their event. They required a custom solution to manage nearly 40 years of race data, participant records, and milestone achievements. After the event’s retirement in 2021, that challenge evolved: the site would need to become a permanent digital archive—built to last.

Solution

We built a custom WordPress site with a powerful internal database and an elegant, responsive design to support both functionality and legacy.

  • Database-Driven Results Interface: Integrated a customized data system that allows users to search, sort, and filter all-time results by name, year, category, or keyword
  • All-Time Achievements Display: Created dedicated sections for records, Thousand-Mile Club members, and standout accomplishments
  • Annual Result Archives: Compiled and uploaded PDF result books for every year, ensuring no detail was lost
  • Historical Content Curation: Wrote and organized content that tells the full story of N24HC—its origin, evolution, and cultural impact in the cycling world
